Benwick Briefing 27.01.2023
Dear Parents/ Carers
Welcome to this week's Benwick Briefing.
Message from Mrs Talbot:
Strike Action
As you may be aware from the recent media coverage, the National Education Union (NEU), announced that they had secured the necessary support in a ballot for industrial action. This is a national dispute with the government, regarding pay and school funding. I am writing to you today to reassure you about what might take place and what this will mean for your child.
Striking is the right of every teacher who is part of a union and is a personal choice, which we respect as a school. As the school’s Headteacher, it is my primary responsibility to ensure our pupils receive the highest standard of education and care.
As a decision to strike has been made, we are now assessing the impact that this will have on our school. We are not always aware of precisely how many employees intend to join strike action. Individuals are not under any obligation to notify us in advance. That can make predicting the impact of action difficult. At present we are expecting to remain open as normal, however these are the key dates to be aware of.
· 1 February (whole country strike)
· 1 March (East Midlands, West Midlands, Eastern)
· 15 March (whole country strike)
· 16 March (whole country strike)
Have a lovely weekend.
Best wishes - Mrs Talbot
Allergies in school
We do have children in school that have allergies, some of these are airborne. Please make sure children are not bringing in snacks containing nuts, do not have peanut butter sandwiches and chocolate spreads are not nut based.
Healthy snacks and Lunchboxes
We promote healthy snacks at break times such as fruit/veg snacks. Processed and sugary foods affect children’s behaviour and ability to learn in a negative way. We do not allow crisps, chocolate biscuits etc. for break times and will not allow children to eat these if they bring them. Please support us by sending healthy snacks and lunchboxes – thank you.
Sporting achievements outside school
Thank you for sending your photos in, our new sporting achievements board looks wonderful, it's lovely to see the wide range of sporting activities the children participate in outside of school.
Have a lovely weekend.
Kind Regards
Mrs Rachael Barton
School Secretary
